In the first centuries (cf. history), the megaliths were known, not for their real meaning, but usefully as boundary markers. The one of Peyrefite was the north marker of the properties belonging to the monastery of Sant Quirze de Culera.
The one located at to the Peak Quer Roig (Carroig), was probably on the old road from Spain to France, in a small settlement around the famous Chapel of Sant Salvador. Unfortunately, now nothing remains. Walkers might find the vestiges of the former road, but a lot has been destroyed by the forest company.
There are 3 dolmens: at the pass called "la Fareille", a small one, previously used as religious place; at the pass "de las Portas", and at the place called "Comenestapere". |
